My Fleet Week Photographic “Walkabout”

A weekend packed with the America’s Cup and Fleet Week in the San Francisco Bay. Take a look at my pics of boats, jets and the throng.
THIS WAS a different kinda weekend, because here in the San Francisco Bay Area we celebrated Fleet Week, which culminated in a weekend show of airplanes, jets, pleasure boats and America’s Cup racers.
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of being invited on a friend’s boat.
Four of us waded out of Sausalito’s Richardson Bay into the San Francisco Bay, puttering among the flotilla of pleasure boats and Coast Guard craft as we sought the perfect place to watch the Blue Angels’ F-22 Raptors, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s F-18 Hornets and, by comparison, a big lumbering United Airlines commercial plane cruising around.
The extra special pleasure… a real life Stealth aircraft.
On Sunday, I grabbed my bike and took the Sausalito Ferry across the Bay to check out more Fleet Week activities. In San Francisco, I weaved in and out of a compressed assortment of people, bikes, vehicles and horse-riding policeman.
Throughout it all, my camera was busy snapping pictures, which I share below with you, including one at the end that shows the price I paid for being insufficiently adept at weaving through the teaming throng.
Enjoy the pics! (Click on any to enlarge, then click again to make it gigantic.)
